On Monday, a group of state ministers and the mayor declared the 40 India Tourist and Industrial Fair open at Island Grounds, but not a single government stall was ready, even till late evening.
As for the food, game and shopping stalls, which are the annual fair's main attraction, there seemed to be no signs of activity.
Officials said the fair, which goes on for a little over two months, attracted 13 .2 lakh visitors last year, and this year the numbers are expected to cross 15 lakh.
The tourism pavilion will highlight Yelagiri Hills,Kuduveri Falls, Mamallapuram , Coutrallam , Hogenakkal and Pitchavam .
About 50 other government pavilions by the state and central departments will be erected .Theentry feeis 15 for adults and 10 for children.
